Lunchtime Recitals in the Picture Gallery

3 – 17 June 2015, Wednesdays & Saturdays at 1.00pm

In collaboration with the Bate Music Collection, 18th century music performed on early original instruments to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Guise Bequest. A harpsichord from the Bate Collection has been installed in the Picture Gallery for these recitals.

Free with gallery entrance ticket.

Full Schedule

Wednesday 3rd June: Musicians from the Royal College of Music's Historical Performance Department. Baroque music by Blavet, Bach and Telemann. Fatima Lahham on recorders; Elin White on baroque violin; Thomas Allery on harpsichord.

Saturday 6th June: Richard McKenzie on lute. Music by Porro, Vidal, Sor and various other composers.

Wednesday 10th June: Francis Shepherd on harpsichord. Semper dolens - Exploring Renaissance chromaticism and melancholy. Featuring a selection of music by Sweelinck, Frescobaldi and Gibbons.

Saturday 13th June: The Bate Consort (on viols). English and Italian consort pieces from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, including works by William Byrd, John Dowland and Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina.

Wednesday 17th June: David Gerrard on harpsichord. A selection of Preludes and Fugues from Book II of Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, interspersed with other works by Bach and Böhm.
